The majority of the department activities are related to thorough comprehensive evaluation of oil and gas reservoir in exploration fields. Likewise many international activities, potential hydrocarbon traps, both structural and strait graphical traps, are being discovered and prioritized for drilling new wells based on different parameters in petroleum systems and doing risk analysis in exploration directorate. In all stages of drilling operation and when various reservoir logs and tests are run in well, RED follows the operations precisely and collects the available data relating to reservoir properties. The main responsibility of the department is reservoir characterization and description of exploration field based on reservoir rock and fluid properties, reservoir pressure and temperature and the patterns, fluid contacts, aquifer existence and aquifer type .RED utilizes all available data to fulfill the integrated study of reservoir behaviors and calculate the hydrocarbon (oil or gas) in place as precisely as possible.
In order to catch all objectives efficiently two main principles have been followed:
- First of all available data in various sources has been gathered and the quality of data has been checked.
- Then all the data has been evaluated and analyzed in order to integrate all of them to make a better image of real behavior of reservoir for prediction.
The required data for a complete evaluation is as follows:
- • Conventional reservoir logs and their interpretations, wire line formation tester like MDT and XPT, Image logs such as FMI, production logs such as PLT, DST, production test, core sampling, reservoir fluid sampling , result of RCAL , SACL and PVT experiment.
Using all available data and considering all of them during the reservoir evaluation, make it easier and more reliable to determine reservoir dimension ,possible location of faults ,reservoir layering ,different pressure regime in reservoir ,existence of gas cap and aquifer , existence of fracture and its features such as fracture density, fracture orientation and so on. RED are equipped with the state-of-the-art commercial and technical software. For example PVTi and SCAL have been used to simulate the reservoir fluid and rock respectively. After gathering available data, Grid information from Geophysical and Geological department, petro physical properties and reservoir fluid characteristic, volumetric calculation will be done by the latest version of PETREL software and some probability study (statistical methods such as Mont-Carlo) will be performed by REP software. Experts working in RED Contribute in different reservoir study projects and taking part actively in many team-working projects such as full field study
and play valuable role by doing dynamic reservoir simulation using ECLIPSE and MERAK soft wares in case, minimum required data is available.
